Shortly after producing a few of his music videos, I started to generate a small buzz on Facebook. I received messages from other artists wanting me to shoot their videos and looked at this as a way to get income to help our struggling family.
It wasn't too long after this that a longtime Facebook friend and fellow University of Memphis student, Jeremy Calhoun, inboxed me and told me that the Urban League was looking for a videographer for their next event. Before this time, I'd never heard of them but was still very excited to film. I'd had a conference meeting with the Keynote speaker, Aaron Arnold, who told me that he chose me after viewing a video I just produced for my brother.
Warning:
The following passage is not one of those super well put together bios about a woman and her company! It is rather a video journey which contains a lot of honesty, growth and excitement for the future of Women + Youth in Film!
So let's start?
Hi, my name is Daphane Handy.
I started filming 5 years ago with a very small Panasonic Lumix! My sole purpose in filming was to help my brother, who was (and still is) a rising artist, have his music heard.
My mom and I were so shocked when we heard this used to be shy kid have grand and meaningful lyrics that I just wanted to help him get noticed as quickly as possible! I knew I had a something special when I would envision such grand visuals to his lyrics!
